diskofreud - post apokalyptische trash studien (labil recordings)

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Very minimal techhouse of the sort that does not seem very interesting when listening closely, but which works well in the background and does stick to you. It has a very dry sound which does not work in all tracks, but which does work nicely in some places.

sascha müller - tales of mystery ep (Gargan records)

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

Some very hard house for the lovers. Personally, yes, I definitely dig this type of house music. Dark, hard, with an aggresive mood.

philipp weigl - monsters (thinner)

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

This release is far more original than a lot of thinner releases, however I still rate it 3/5. Why? The release itself is a lot of the same. It is nice to have good vocals, it is nice to have good music, but if 8 tracks totalling nearly 35 minutes all sound alike, it just […]

muhr - drames et précipices (zymogen)

Friday, November 17th, 2006

Sometimes minimal, and mostly organic. That’s the best description for this release. There’s no outstanding work on this release, but it’s all definitely not bad either. It is just unfortunate that the music by Muhr could’ve been the music by quite a few other artists.

dj peter presto - demo

Monday, November 13th, 2006

A DJ that puts up a demo mix for the world to hear. There’s tons out there and most are so-so, or even outright bad. Peter Presto did it slightly better. His mix is very good, an hour of great house music. No commercial stuff, yet still very accessible. Nice dancefloor material.

tatsu - space travel ep (Bump foot)

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

More tech-house/minimal on a netlabel, but this one at least stands out above the rest a bit. It has feeling and drive, and stays interesting. Three great tracks for dancing or chilling.

fern - this first day (Autoplate)

Friday, November 10th, 2006

Beautiful dreamy ambient. This is one to keep. Lots of details, beautiful ambiences, simply amazing. Get it!

gastón arévalo - música para pecéras ep (Tropic)

Monday, November 6th, 2006

A more than interesting release by an artist I had not heard of before. A combination of ambient, minimal and electronica in a very organic way. Beautiful, detailed, soothing. Amazing stuff.

geeks - one in the hole mix (Pressurelab)

Monday, November 6th, 2006

This is a great one for lovers of drum ‘n’ bass. An hour-long mix of massive drum ‘n’ bass, of which the artists on the playlist only one or two sound familiar. The music is great though, wonderful for getting hyper while working (coding in my case).

finnish pop sensation - the jilted (Kyoto republic)

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

For some reason, I associate a word like ‘jilted’ with darkness and harshness. The finnish pop sensation, however, is definitely not that. Quite the opposite. It’s a nice poppy electronica though, cheesy at times (vocoder vocals, anyone?) but still a nice listen.
