the kirby - the island of the unrealized hopes (Vorbic)

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

I guess this album by The Kirby is best described as melodic, emotional electronica pop. Accessible, with a lot of variation in sound, ranging from beautiful ambientesque sounds to a bit more uptempo melodic electronica, this release will appeal to lovers of (melodic) IDM, electronica, downtempo and ambient.

orange crush - the fields (Archaic Horizon)

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Orange crush comes in somewhere between Phasic and Boards of Canada. Very nice emotional electronica. I miss a distinct own sound though, let’s just say this music is very inspired by music already outthere. A good goal for the future then, and even with the lack of a distinct sound, it’s still very nice and […]

electric puha - fromage electrique ep (Beluga Recordings)

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

The Cheese Detective Agency remixes three tracks by Beluga native Electric Puha. But don’t be fooled by the cheese, the music is far from cheesy. Excellent nu-skool breaks, especially in USA Who Are You? Think Tipper with more soul. Awesome!

various artists - statement of purpose (Xynthetic)

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

After the initial release by label founder Xyn, it is now time for a compilation that will set the tone for the whole label. The title of the compilation already says it all: Statement of Purpose. The music varies wildly from IDM through Drum ‘n’ Bass to Electro-ish sounds. An excellent, though quite long, compilation […]

cd-r - vesna (Electrosound.ru)

Monday, February 12th, 2007

Rich glitchy IDM. Great work with stereo. This must sound mind-blowing in a live performance setting. Minimal, yet rich in texture. Wow!

polarproject - no name lp (decisive sound records)

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Nice experimental electronica, ranging from quite ambient to really IDM-ish. Lots of blips and bleeps, so lovers of those will be happy. Enough atmosphere to capture you into the music. Reflections sounds very Orb-ish, to give a comparison. But that’s only a single comparison, the range of styles is too big to just go with […]

lan formatique - amber eyes (Digilog)

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

4 tracks of very nice emotional electronica. Beautiful tingling sounds, nice melodies. The rhythms could’ve been slightly more complex here and there, but that should not stop people from listening.

take pills - 05.06.06 (Take Pills Die)

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

Most of this is not my thing, but it may appeal to people who like things less polished. There’s too much chaos and “rough” material for my liking. Some interesting things in between.

manziping - valpo (Yukiyaki)

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

A new label for me, Yukiyaki knows good music. A combination of IDM and tech-house, both listeners and dancefloor junkies can be happy with this release. Interesting from start to end, which is with only 5 tracks still a respectable 44 minutes of music.

emil klotzsch - feinquisit (One)

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Ever since I found out about the One netlabel, I’ve been a happy listener of their offerings. This nice release offers crackles and noises in a pleasant way. The (german) vocals that are used here and there, though occasionally a bit whining, fit in with the atmosphere of the music. Very nice.
